Drug and Alcohol Misuse

Cambridgeshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team is a multi-agency partnership working to implement the National Drug Strategy. It works to reduce the harm that drugs cause to communities in the county, including through Community Support, Drug Awareness for Community Groups and by letting Cambridgeshire residents know what work is being done to tackle drugs throughout the county. The DAAT has five main areas of work.

Young People
The DAAT aims to help young people resist drug and alcohol misuse and to achieve their full potential in society. A wide range of programmes are in existence across Cambridgeshire supporting the education, prevention and treatment needs of young people in relation to substance misuse.

Communities
The DAAT works with the Community Safety Partnerships to strengthen the ability of communities to resist drug related problems and to develop multi-agency approaches to reducing the availability of drugs.

Treatment
The DAAT's Joint Commissioning Group leads on work commissioning treatment services that enable people with substance misuse related problems to overcome them and live healthy and crime-free lives.

Policing
The police lead action to disrupt the supply and availability of drugs. To assist them in this, money has been made available through the Community Safety Partnerships and includes spending on extra targeted operations, police time and additional CCTV cameras.

Drug Interventions Programme
The Drug Interventions Programme (DIP) is a major new element of the Government's Drug Strategy. It aims to take advantage of the opportunities within the criminal justice system for accessing drug misusing offenders and moving them away from drug use and criminal behaviour and into treatment. It is strongly linked with the CDRPs work to tackle Prolific and other Priority Offenders.
